President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović met with Member of German Bundestag from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Mr. Peter Beyer during his visit to Montenegro in the framework of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung program.

The President appreciated opportunity to meet again with the German MP, who is an excellent connoisseur of the situation in the region. He thanked Germany for its support and consistent support for the European future of the Western Balkans, which is confirmed by this visit as well.

Mr. Beyer thanked for the meeting, recalling the frequent meetings with the President from the period when Montenegro was a role model and ideal for all others in the region wishing to undergo reforms in the EU accession process. In that context, they agreed on the necessity of getting out of the difficult situation through extraordinary parliamentary elections, so that the country could return to the path allowing it to make progress in the integration process, including announcement of the establishment of the full functionality of the Constitutional Court, as an important prerequisite for organizing elections process. We need a strong Montenegro, resilient to influences, Beyer said, noting that the implementation of malign ideas towards the NATO member must not be allowed.

Đukanović and Beyer shared concerns about the slowdown in the enlargement process, the deficit of the European enthusiasm and reform activities in the region, which is a result of several factors. In this context, they welcomed the revival of the Berlin Process, as the most relevant platform for achieving European standards in the integration process.

The President thanked Mr. Beyer for his understanding and support, adding that the Ukrainian experience obliges us all to be principled, leaving no room for compromises that could have a negative impact on the region.
