Marija Vesković

Marija Vesković is a graduate lawyer with experience in the fields of judiciary, human rights, and legislative reforms. Since the beginning of 2024, Vesković has been engaged in the President’s Cabinet through cooperation with UNDP, where she participated in preparing analyses and proposals for initiatives, including those related to improving electoral legislation, human rights protection, and dealing with the past.

Notably, she contributed to the initiative for compensating the victims of Goli Otok, aimed at recognizing the suffering of political prisoners and strengthening the culture of remembrance, as well as the initiative to introduce open electoral lists, which seeks greater accountability of political representatives and improved transparency of the electoral process.

Before joining the Cabinet, Vesković worked at the non-governmental organization Human Rights Action (HRA), where from 2020 she served as a legal advisor and project coordinator focused on enhancing the independence and accountability of the judiciary. She was a member of the working group for drafting the Law on the Judicial Council and Judges and co-author of several reports on the work of the Judicial Council. She also gained professional experience working in law firms.

Vesković is an alumna of international programs such as the U.S. Government’s International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) and the European Union Visitors Programme (EUVP), through which she further developed her knowledge of the functioning of democratic institutions and public policies in an international context.

She completed her undergraduate and specialist studies at the Faculty of Law, University of Montenegro (civil law program).
